SISTERS SANG OUR HEARTS OUT

After a late-winter storm postponed the event by six weeks, April 13 2024 saw the return to Sisters of the Portland-based Low Bar Chorale, a very popular group of professional touring musicians including and led by choral master Ben Landswerk. AFSC welcomed over 125 Sisters residents to The Belfry for a FREE evening of community fellowship and song as the band guided the room in three-part harmony to the songs of Elton John, Tom Petty, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, David Bowie, and others.

After an absence of over four years the band was thrilled to have been invited back, and the audience — ranging in age from little kids to a van full of older adults from The Lodge— learned more about each other and about AFSC and its Action Teams as everyone spread out comfortably in The Belfry’s main room, bar, lobby, and balcony. AFSC requested that all wear name tags and agree to introduce themselves to someone they did not already know. New connections were made, old friendships renewed, and all agreed that an evening of song can bring everyone together to foster greater community spirit.

AFSC hopes this will become an annual opportunity for the band to cross the Cascades and for Sisters Country residents to combat isolation, learn more about how AFSC Action Teams are working to improve livability in Sisters every day, and for all of us to sing our hearts out.
